[ Abstract ]
In the Spanish Civil War, the railway network was divided into
two parts. This balanced division will evolve as the rebellious
side occupied the greater part of the peninsular territory.
The strategic importance of the railways as the main means of
transportation and transport in Spain of the time, causes that
both contenders begun the construction of new sections of
infrastructure in such adverse situations with the objective of
providing a continuity solution to the lines that had been
interrupted, and thus, be able to carry both transport of goods
and passengers and supplies to the front of war and military
transports.
At the end of the conflict in 1939, the crisis and the railroad
problem had been aggravated by the numerous material and
economic losses of a heavily depleted sector, which would mean
the nationalization of Spanish railway network.
