[ Abstract ]
Nationalization of Metropolitano de Madrid Company was one of the main projects of urban modernization undertaken by the UCD Governments. The Ministry of Transports and Communications carried out the intervention through the Law 13/1979, with the goal of accomplishing an ambitious investing process to build four new lines. Besides, the required security measures were included in the project, since they had not been applied due to the economic situation of the private company. The plan, which was developed by the Government, got consolidated when the ownership became property of the City Council and County Council. The formula applied in Madrid was used as a model to improve infrastructures and services in other towns of the country.
