[ Abstract ]
The international isolation that Spain suffered when the Civil War finished forced to the Government to concentrate their efforts in Segura and Cazorla Mountain Ranges, one of the main forest stores in the southern area of Spain, in order to provision of a large part of the wood needed to rebuild the damaged railway. Explotaciones Forestales, a division created by RENFE when it was founded, was in charge of the execution of the felling of trees and the supply of wood between 1942 and 1988. So, the objective of this paper is to explain the task developed by this company and the economic, social and ecological consequences that this activity had for that region, one of the poorest area, but also one of the better preserved in Andalusia.
