[ Abstract ]
We propose, initially, a framework on the characteristics of energy networks from a general perspective and the factors which had influenced over its development with particular attention on the gas pipelines. Afterwards, we suggest the main lines of research developed in Spain since the 1980’s decade and some links with other European research lines which were creating a suitable methodology for the technical networks study. After that, we will indicate some sources –mainly of them unpublished– which contain information on the development of gas industry in Spain, essentially between the 19th and the middle of 20th Centuries. In our conclusions we think about the future of the energy networks study. Finally, the bibliography presents a survey of the publications which have studied the networks development with special emphasis in the theoretical works as well as some works on the historical development of gas in Europe. We will insert, at the end, a selection of contributions for the gas history in Spain.
