[ Abstract ]
The situation regarding company records in the Madrid Region is marked by the dispersion of sources and studies, as well as registrars’ lack of professional contact, and added to an absence of state, regional and company policies that lay down guidelines regarding company records.
The article begins with a brief general view of the Madrid Region, both its company situation and with regard to regional legislation of company records. The real study of records begins with an overall view of the world of working records: trade unions and associations; the regional public company sector, both locally and regionally; the state public company sector with the main public companies; and the private company sector. The existence of professionals at large state companies has been confirmed, though not at all, and their general absence at private companies, whose records are looked after by service Companies.
The aim of this article is to give evidence of the existence of numerous records which have, for various reasons, remained ostracised or forgotten, and it is intended to be a first step in not just gathering together and publicising the documentary resources that do exist, but also so that other records and registrars, undoubtedly existing in the Region, may come to light for the good of the Historical Heritage of Madrid.
