[ Abstract ]
The article will focus on three aspects related to the
elaboration of inventories of railway goods, highlighting in
advance what in this regard several international organizations,
such as TICCIH and ICOMOS, have been achieving, namely through
patrimonial charters. The first aspect will address the
inventory as a way to manage the railway heritage, analyzing the
activity of two institutions that have been developing several
railway heritage, the “Memória Ferroviária” Project and IPHAN,
in particularly the initiatives it undertook to carry out the
inventory of the extinct “Rede Ferroviária Federal”. The second
aspect will address inventories as a way of preserving the
railway heritage, seeking to synthesize the historical
experience that in this context is embodied in various heritage
charters, such as the Athens Charter, the Venice Charter and the
Nairobi Recommendation. Finally, a brief methodological roadmap
for the inventory of the railway heritage will be presented,
based on the recommendations of the Charter of Burra, which has
been pointed out as a document to be followed with regard to
intervention in the railway heritage.
