SUMMARY TST 35
[ Abstract ]
This paper characterises the French railways engineer Raoul
Dautry as an organiser and as a social engineer, both of them
roles that he mastered to stand out of his contemporaries. The
attention is focused on three of his most remarkable
achievements: The use of the Scientific Organisation of Work at
the railways, the construction of the garden cities of the Nord
company, and the layout of the apprentice school of the l’Etat
company. Finally, his departure from the railways and his
promotion as a technocratic figure, area in which he breaks new
ground, will also be introduced.
