[ Abstract ]

This article makes reference to the supply of tobacco in Spain in the XIX century, making stress in the contractors that go to the auctions. It is divided in two parts. The first one outlines the vicissitudes of the service, following the guidelines of the conditions that the contractors should complete, being held these to a series of rules subordinated to the economic policy of the governments of the XIX century. Of the two options that are managed, continuity of the cigar store or desestanco of the tobacco, are chosen, finally, the reformation of the Rent and their convenient lease to a company. In the second part, through a chronology of the orders of tobaccos for the Spanish factories, being detailed the qualities, the weight and the offered prices, the evolution is traced between 1860 and 1887. From the data, it stands out José Campo, the marquis of Campo, like main contractor of tobaccos in Spain during this period. Their case serves as example to carry out an economic analysis on its particular fortune based on the supply and, also, to verify the collapse like a businessman, putting an end to him a cycle of speculation of the Spanish capitalism.
