[ Abstract ]
The aim of this paper is to outline some reticences to two common statements in Spanish historical studies about overseas trade of wheat and floor. First, the Act of 1820 that foreboded the imports was essential for the articulation of the national market. The comparison of national and foreign prices shows that integration was primarily due to competitiveness of Spanish wheat. The second statement criticised is that exports of wheat and floor before to the crisis of 1856/57 and 1868 worsened them. In fact, neither imports or exports seems to affect the markets; only the big entries at the end of 1868 prevented a more serious crisis in the next year. To prove these hypothesis, a brief statistical abstract of foreign trade of wheat and floor is shown.
